Take My Hand: LGBTQIA+ Mental Health Awareness and Support

  • CMK Energy LLC Online (map)

According to recent studies, transgender adults report mental health disorders at nearly four times the rate of cisgender adults, and LGBTQ+ adults report experiencing mental health conditions at more than twice the rate as heterosexual adults. Additionally, 18.1% of LGB adults report suicidal thoughts compared to 3.7% of heterosexual adults. Surveys show that transgender adults are nearly nine times more likely to attempt suicide in their lifetime. LGB adults report major depressive episodes at 26.2%, compared with 6.8% of heterosexual adults. Anxiety disorders are also significantly more common, with some studies showing rates 1.5–2 times higher among LGBTQ+ adults.

Large national surveys consistently show that LGBTQ+ youth report significantly higher rates of suicidal thoughts than non‑LGBTQ+ peers. The Trevor Project's national surveys (2022–2024) report that suicidal ideation among LGBTQ+ youth has trended upward over the past several years, reflecting a worsening mental health landscape, and 52% of transgender and nonbinary young people seriously considered suicide in the past year. Increased awareness and community support can stop this upward trend and break the cycle.
